Now, I don’t usually participate in National Whatever Day because, unless it’s something that was a calendar thing the day after I was born or an actual official or commonly known religious holiday, I don’t much care.

But I very much care about what’s going on in the United States of America because this country has been my home for more than half my life.

Today is National Voter Registration Day, so get.

Get. You have eyes, you have ears, and I shouldn’t have to hope that you’re decent. I am, so I will presume most of you are. And you are the American Dream, too. Voting is the least you can do.

Yeah, sure – it ain’t mandatory. But what a lovely privilege to have, no?

For you, my American friends, voting is a duty dressed as a right. Don’t lose sight of the former lest you wanna lose the latter.

Ustedes ven como es la cosa: A los americanos, nunca se les ha pedido formalmente que voten. Es mas, hay una campaña en marcha para prevenir que muchos voten.

Durante los últimos dos años en particular, al inmigrante latinoamericano lo han tachado como villano (compórtense…). Nos han agarrado de chivos expiatorios. Pero esa no es la única realidad. Este país nos ha dado la bienvenida, es nuestro hogar.

Sí podemos, debemos hacer lo digno…lo que nos corresponde, y lo que nos manda en gratitud, y eso es votar.

Demos el ejemplo, compartamos lo bonito que es ejercer nuestro derecho y nuestro deber cívico.
